MANILA, Philippines— Gilbert Malabanan, the head coach of the Lyceum Pirates, believes that the team’s current three-game winning streak is due to the Pirates’ increased level of trust for one another.

Due to the Pirates’ strong start, they are now tied for second position with the Arellano Chiefs, who also have a record of 3-1.

On Tuesday, after Malabanan’s team defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College with a score of 74-67, the coach of the team said, “So far, I saw one nice thing out of them, and that is their trust.”

Because of this trust, Lyceum has been able to successfully execute its offense by skillfully distributing the ball with its teammates. After recording 20 assists in their victory over San Beda on Saturday, the Pirates had 19 assists in their game against the Generals on Sunday.

“Before, they were having trouble, and everyone wanted to score, but today I can tell that they are following our strategy. Previously, they were having trouble. They make things not for themselves but for the people they play with, as Malabanan put it.

Claude Guada’a led Lyceum in scoring with 12 points, including a critical three-pointer in the last minute of the game.

According to Guadaa, the Pirates’ defeat at the hands of College of St. Benilde taught them a valuable lesson about the significance of trusting each other and the coaching staff.

“It all started during the game against CSB. After the game, I’m not sure why, maybe because of first-game jitters, but we all went home by ourselves because there was no bus waiting for us. After that, there is consistently just one word put on our board: trust. “Trust your teammates, and trust the people who are coaching you,” he told us.

“Making it to the Final Four is our ultimate objective, but for now, we’re just going to focus on winning each individual game.”

When they take on San Sebastian (2-1), Lyceum will be looking to win their fourth game in a row on Saturday at 3 o’clock.
